Chaos Vantage- Denoiser Nvidia Optix AI-Critical Error - “Not Enough Memory to Change Render Resolution” with Latest NVIDIA Drivers

Dear NVIDIA Support,

I am experiencing a critical error when rendering in Chaos Vantage at 8K resolution( I am using the Nvidia OptiX AI denoiser integrated into Chaos Vantage) using the latest NVIDIA drivers for my RTX 3090. The error message I receive is: “Critical error: Not enough memory to change render resolution.” (If I render in 8K and enable the denoiser as Intel Open Image Denoise, I can render it while using the latest driver)

Interestingly, when I use an older driver version (552.22), I can render the 8K and enable the denoiser as Nvidia OptiX AI,scene without any issues. However, with the latest drivers, I encounter this memory error, even though the GPU has 24GB of VRAM, which should be sufficient for 8K rendering (I am rendering a very small file, about 700MB). I using Chaos vantage version 2.6.2

I would appreciate your support in resolving this issue, as I need to update my drivers for gaming while also working with high-resolution renders in Chaos Vantage.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hi @dongthao2024,

Welcome to the NVIDIA Developer forums. This community serves the developer ecosystem.

For application issues with Chaos applications, please visit the Chaos support channels.

If you want to save your raw renders and denoise them manually, it may be possible by building the OptiX SDK samples.

So the issue I’m experiencing is caused by Chaos Vantage, not the latest NVIDIA driver, right? @dhart

I don’t know, the issue might be caused by the driver or by the application. This forum is for OptiX developers, not for support of non-NVIDIA applications. Even if the issue is caused by driver changes, we can’t test it properly and Chaos might still need to make changes to Vantage to fix it. You should report the issue to Chaos so that they can have the proper technical discussion with us and get the fix delivered to you as soon as possible.

There is a memory issue in the latest drivers that will be fixed soon, and the workaround for that for now is to use your previous driver that worked before. That being said, the OptiX denoiser has a limit of 8k resolution. Applications that use the OptiX denoiser may need to implement tiling in order to denoise 8k and higher resolution images in order to avoid crashing or running out of memory.
