dGPU on IGX T5000

Hi,

We are currently building a product based on the Jetson T5000 and we’re considering switching to the IGX Thor because of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise and dGPU support. However, we are unable to acomodate the T7000 motherboard and need our own carrier board with a T5000. This leads to the following questions:

  1. It seems to me that the T7000 is a IGX T5000 + motherboard. Does this mean that the RTX 6000 Blackwell Max Q is supported when using a custom carrier board that connects the x8 PCIe directly to the GPU (without the ConnectX7 chip in between)?
  2. As the IGX T5000 and the Jetson T5000 seem to be identical in hardware, has somebody managed to get the RTX 6000 to work with the Jetson T5000? I’m asking this to evaluate whether we have to buy an IGX Thor or whether we can test this on our current hardware.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best,

Michael

Hi michael406,

IGX T5000 does not support for dGPU like RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell.
If you need the dGPU support, please use IGX T7000 board kit instead.
It supports the BMC, dGPU and the custom chassis while it is not allowed for the custom board design.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I would like to understand whether the dGPU on the T5000 is not officially supported or whether it is impossible to work.

In my understanding (please correct me if I’m wrong) the T7000 is the T5000 + a mother board. The dGPU connection goes through

  1. the PCIe x8 of the T5000
  2. the ConnectX7 chip on the motherboard
  3. PCIe x16 from the ConnectX7 chip to the dGPU

I take from this that it is possible to connect the T5000 to a dGPU in this configuration. However, in contrast to most custom designs, the T7000 motherboard has the ConnectX7 chip in between the IGX Thor and the dGPU. Is this strictly required (e.g. by the dGPU driver) or is it possible to directly connect the PCIe x8 from the IGX Thor to the dGPU?

On IGX today, RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell dGPU is only validated and supported on the IGX T7000 board kit / IGX Thor Developer Kit.
The IGX T5000 module is validated as an iGPU-only platform, so any dGPU attached to T5000 (direct PCIe or via other topology) is outside POR and not a supported/qualified configuration.
In T7000 the BMC + ConnectX-7 + PCIe path are part of the validated platform (not just a driver requirement), so if you need a supported dGPU setup, please use IGX T7000 or the IGX Thor Developer Kit.
