Driver version selection for Ubuntu 22.04 with GeForce RTX 4050 (Laptop GPU)

Hi,

I’m facing issues to select the proper Nvidia driver on my machine running Ubuntu OS. The hardware is a Dell G15 laptop with GeForce RTX 4050 (Laptop GPU). On Windows 11 the second screen works fine, then it’s not a hardware issue, such as the HDMI port. However, on Ubuntu 22.04 the second screen is fully black in case of using nvidia-driver-565-server, or all yellow in case of using Xorg with X11 windowing system. I already tried other nvidia-driver versisons, such as 470, 535, 545, and 550, without success tough.

For all of the drivers I tried, when running the command nvidia-smi I got the error message “NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver…"

I also check the secure boot in the BIOS and it’s disabled.

The kernel version is 6.10.6-061006-generic. Please let me know in case of the solution to this issue is changing the kernel version.

I’m attaching the nvidia bug report here:
