Nvidia driver black screen problem (Ubuntu)

I have tried to install the nVidia driver version 460 many times. Every time I get a black screen with no output. CTRL+ALT+F4 does not bring the console terminal, and no online solutions work. I am able to restore the system to a bootable state by using my Timeshift backup from a Live CD.
I need a newer driver version for several programs. I am able to successfully install driver version 390 though. I am using the “Additional Drivers” application on ubuntu, but installing it via the cmdline doesnt help either.

not using displayport. I am using two philips 1080p 60hz monitors, one DVI, one HDMI

Reinstalled my system to Pop!_OS 20.10 and now nvidia drivers work perfectly fine.
