eMMC Lifetime Jetson Xavier AGX

Hi

Can NVidia provide further details of the lifetime of the on-module 32GB eMMC? What is the estimated number of read/write cycles, until the eMMC is dead? Is the lifetime the same for the Jetson AGX Xavier and the TX2(i)?

Thank you.
Best regards

Hi sevm89,

The operating lifetime for AGX Xavier is 5 years, please refer to https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/faq#jetson-lifetime

Thanks

Hi kayccc

Does this mean that we can write nonstop 24/7 on the eMMC at full speed for 5 years? Or do you have a use case for the 5 years?

Thanks

Hi sevm89,

Not quite sure you mean - “nonstop 24/7 on the eMMC at full speed for 5 years”, may I know what’s your use case?

Thanks

Hi kayccc

We write 10 KB per second and additionally 1 MB per minute. Is the expected lifetime of the eMMC still 5 years?
Thanks.

Best regards

Sure, the lifetime is much more than 5 yrs in your use case. Generally the full w/r cycle of eMMC is several hundred/thousand. It is 32GB eMMC in Jetson, you can calculate the lifetime accordingly.

Just as a rough number you’re looking at 96TB of lifetime use in a simliar eMMC. MLC with WAP < 10, and temperature at normal ambients ebbing and flowing through the midwest over the course of a year with jedec standard wear leveling.
