Enable TCC mode in laptop RTX A5000

Hello

I have a Dell 7760 laptop with an Intel Core i7-11850H (and its integrated UHD graphics GPU…) + a NVIDIA RTX A5000

The system is configured through nvidia control panel to use only the integrated GPU.
There are no external monitors connected. In nvidia control panel I can see that no monitor is connected to the A5000 GPU.

nvidia-smi shows that the card supports both TCC and WDDM, anyway I cannot switch to TCC

I tried both with pwsh and cmd, in normal user and in admin mode…

I get this error:
nvidia-smi -i 0 -fdm 1
Unable to set driver model for GPU 00000000:01:00.0: Not Supported
Treating as warning and moving on.
All done.

Any idea of what’s happening?

The tool indicates it is not supported. There is no statement or guarantee from NVIDIA that all GPUs, or all laptop GPUs, or all laptop workstation GPUs, can be placed into TCC mode.

Hi Robert, and thanks

Seeing TCC/WDDM next to the GPU name in nvidia-smi lead me to believe that my RTX A5000 was indeed able to work in both modes.

I understand that (unfortunately…) that’s not the case…
