Flashing L4T R27.1 in TX2: UnicodeDecodeError : Reading board information failed

It would be like raspberry pi. The OS installed in sd card. It should skip the eeprom reading steps in flash and help you flash successfully. If it is really related to eeprom, it would have no mac addr after boot up…

Well , the custom carrier board i am planning to use won’t have SD card port . this solution can be just temporary for my use case . However in case it’s a hardware issue , which i am now quite sure it is ( newly bought TX2 module works just fine) what suggestion do you have for me ? could it still be a software or poorly configured issue ?

I think you could use our RMA process for this broken module.

Here’s the process to get an RMA via NVIDIA Support:

I just discovered a new rather complicated problem. My old TX2 had already ubuntu os ( bought together with jetson board ) . and now it seems the system doesn’t boot anymore . well half an hour ago during my last comment in the topic , it was all good and running except the mac address issue . and suddenly it started rebooting on it’s own . and reboot wouldn’t complete , it would start rebooting again. sp here are the serial console outputs i am getting . i press the reset button and booting stops at different stage ,sometime t stops too early . sometimes a bit late .

It really seems like a hardware failure needing RMA. Still, I am very curious about “Reason = 0x1c”. I’m wondering if there is a list of codes visible for “Reason”, e.g., “0x1c”?

I didn’t understand what codes should be visible , I posted whatever output i managed to get from serial console . I can’t re check for you though , as i have already sent it back to the vendor i bought it from .
