Gnome night light not working under Wayland

made account to say this:

You’re literally destroying the last shred of hope that they may implement this feature…

They already have destroyed any hope of implementing this feature by itself…

Guys, I understand that you are all frustrated about the feature lacking, Nvidia devs already confirmed that they are working on it and when there is an update they will inform us, unfortunately we can only wait and hopefully it will come soon.
Keep in mind that the Wayland(& Xwayland) implementations still need plenty of work to be done for some things to not hit the fan as you are using them(flickering, text moving forward/backward, no proper sync in things and degraded performance when you run a high demanding game).
We all want these bugs to be fixed and features to be implemented(G-Sync/Freesync support or HDR which people are requesting too), however keep in mind that there still are all of the bugs/glitches I mentioned above and there is always on-going work from nvidia devs and linux devs to bring the support up to high standard(AMD Mesa Levels), but just spamming this thread wouldn’t bring neither the feature nor resolve all of the issues mentioned above.

NVIDIA hurts my eyes. Thanks for your great closed source drivers.

@amrits I appreciate you sharing the status on this over time.

Are there any new updates since Nov 2022?

Gnome doesn’t give a damn about nvidia night light support for users, they could have fixed it like kde.

I suggest that you actually read the bug that you linked to, before ranting on Gnome.

Kde have worked around the Gamma LUT issue with nvidia.

So KDE actually made a workaround (the actual bug 450327 – Night Color doesn't work at all on Plasma Wayland with NVIDIA). One could argue it’s not a proper fix. They force color management with Nvidia GPU and ignore missing properties from the Nvidia driver. So not a good implementation and comes with small performance hit (according to developer). They will probably revert this when Nvidia does the proper implementation.

@ekurzinger It seems only you are responding. Can you tell if the 535 or 545 drivers have GAMMA_LUT support? Or will we wait longer?

The 535 driver will not have GAMMA_LUT support. I’m unsure about 545.

Hi @ekurzinger , any update?

Dear Nvidia Driver developers!

We (your faithful users) are really, really looking forward to this update. It looks like an extremely minor feature, but it is not. Please be so kind as to solve this ASAP, or at least give us the option to test it out in a beta driver version, etc. This is really becoming a shame to have this silliness still going for two years!

Thank you!

I’ll add this to the pile of reasons I will buy an AMD video card next.

HOW IS THIS STILL NOT FIXED??? It has been a year since the “we are working on it” comment. The Torvalds middle finger was so spot on.

Given how they’ve been handling the situation I think it would take less time to get through all the nvidia interview process and fix the bug ourselves rather than waiting for someone to fix it

That would show quite some dedication :D
Problem is, it’s not the developers but some managers/leaders not prioritizing it and even blocking it.
They might be even waiting for an intern to take on it and let the seniors focus on other things.

Yeah I mean tbh this feels like some intern level task that can be fixed in two weeks. Don’t they have any intern at nvidia?!

Really inconvenient. Under Wayland, there is this problem with the night light mode, and under GNOME, there is a black screen when I try to resize a movie to full screen (fractional scaling related)
