GPU not used by web browsers?

Debian 11, latest nvidia drivers, kernel 5.18

hi,
I noticed that my rtx 2060 may not be used in browsers.
nvidia-smi won’t report a second line, just Xorg.

If I remember correctly, it should report a new line with the process line when the gpu is used.
nvidia-bug-report.tar.gz (239.2 KB)

Chrome also has not so great performance with a webgl app.

I wonder if it is only my UHD630 being used or not.

Even switching to performance profile in the nvidia-settings won’t change a thing…
Is there an issue in my config?

Thanks,

Please use offloading:
https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/495.44/README/primerenderoffload.html

I actually did that and still, the graphic card won’t bother activating…

Doing it for the glxgears works fine though…
Others reported the same issue. So I guess it is a know bug in browsers.
Well…

Thanks generix

Once more, you were right:

added __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia /path/to/firefox

and nvidia-smi reports it now…

For some reason, I had to reboot. Maybe something clunky with an update or something…
Thanks :)

Yet, there are still issues with browsers and offloading, so not everything might work.
