GPUs usable with NvFBC

I’m looking to use NvFBC in a project, but it’s not clear to me exactly which GPUs are supported. We will probably be using a Quadro M4000 in production, but I have a GTX 980 in my development machine and I can’t get it to work (NvFBC_CreateEx returns NVFBC_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED_PLATFORM on Windows 7). The GRID SDK 2.3 programming guide states a single instance of NvFBC can be used on GeForce cards with the right GUID set, but doesn’t elaborate on how to do that. Additionally, the SDK release notes state "no support for Maxwell GPUs", which is a problem because I need a Maxwell card for the 4k60 support in NVENC.

And can we do the same on Linux ?
It seems there’s only Grid SDK 2.2 for Linux, no 2.3.
