GTX 760 not recognized, driver breaks system

Hello, I am very new to Linux and decided to try it out (I am on Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon). I installed Linux, ran everything, everything seemed to work out fine until I tried running a game. I got terrible FPS; thought it might be a driver issue so updated to recommended driver (nvidia-driver-470 - it says "Version 470.256.02-0ubuntu0.24.04.1) with driver manager. This broke my computer: no display after boot, I only got asus screen and could boot into BIOS but after that just black. The only way I could get rid of this issue was by reinstalling Linux. I tried to install latest driver again, same result. My GPU shows up when I go into System Info. I tried some commands: nvtop says “No GPU to monitor”. nvidia-smi says “NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.” only I can’t do this since everything breaks

Does anyone have any suggestions? Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you need more information, I’m very new to this and would appreciate the help very much

Thank you for your time!
