I run a laptop with Dual-boot between Windows 10 and Ubuntu (now 24.04).
I was running Ubuntu 23.10 until now without any issue, GPU fully working. Today I updated my OS to version 24.04 and now my system can’t detect my GPU. I first realized it as my external monitor went black, and my HDMI port is connected to my GPU.
First I’ve tried checking for the drivers, but my system did not find anything, saying “all drivers are up-to-date”, but no Nvidia driver was shown on the list. Then, I’ve followed this tutorial and now the drivers appear, but says errors have been found during the processing of “nvidia-dkms-545” and “nvidia-driver-545”.
Runing nvidia-smi
returns an error:
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.
I know for a fact that it’s not an hardware issue as the card is detected and working on both Windows 10, and when booting from a Ubuntu 24.04 Boot-USB (same version as my OS).
