Unable to detect GPU in Ubuntu while in Dual Boot

Hi ! I am using dual boot of windows and Ubuntu, where Windows is primary OS. So recently when i tried to access the GPU in Ubuntu, I tried “nvidia-smi” command and it gave error as “NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running”. So I tried to install GTX 1650 driver for Ubuntu. But in the additional driver setting it not detecting the GPU model. Instead showing unknown.

So I am unable to work using GPU. Is there anything so that I can work on GPU in Ubuntu.

Have you tried the one two steps down in the screenshot?

The open driver doesn’t like my 3090, but the “normal” one does.

There is another thread here where I have described a problem you will likely encounter, and how to work around it. My last reply contains how you need to do it to get it to work. The thread is called “Nvidia 535.86.05 unable to install on Ubuntu 23.04”
