HDMI connection not detected - Mint 21 + GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop [SOLVED]

Hello,

I’m having a second screen + a videoprojector connected via HDMI from my laptop.

It works in Windows, but it does not in Mint 21 (except in discrete GPU mode in Bios, but grub does not boot the system in this mode, I can only see that the second screen displays the attempt of loading too).

Drivers and kernel are up-to-date, Nvidia card is set at performance mode (other modes = same issue).

I suspect some issue with dual graphic cards support.

The HDMI port is not even detected with xrandr command.

I tried everything, including modeset=0 for nvidia-drm.

I bought an adaptor miniDP-HDMI, does not work either.

Some idea ?

Thanks,
Cath

The log :

nvidia-bug-report.log (1.7 MB)

It seems the device is ignored at boot for some reason.

Please delete /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
and uninstall the xorg-video-intel driver.

Thanks for your reply.
In fact, I had no xorg.conf file at all (there is no xorg.conf by default now).
I just generated the file with the nvidia-xconfig command, I added the Module and Device settings recommended in the posts of the forum admins, and it perfectly works after graphic server restart.
I add solved to my post.
Thanks a lot for helping !
Cath

Noooo. Don’t create any xorg.conf, delete it.

Okay !
But what alternative ?

Do I uninstall the xorg-video-intel driver all the same ?

Really really sorry, I read your post far too quickly.
I missed /usr/share/X11 for xorg.conf as I was in /etc/X11 at the same time.
20-intel.conf is there allright.
I’ll do this tomorrow morning and post the result
Thanks,
Cath

That’s it,
rm /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
+
uninstalling xserver-xorg-video-intel

Works for second screen.

Many issues with Nvidia GPU behaviour (lags, frozen screen and fan at max) are solved at the same time.

Thanks a lot,
Cath
