I have an Hpe 5950 with sfp28 card. From server side i have melanox nic sfp28 dual port (MCX4121A-ACAT). What dac cable should i use and reference ? Anyone tested this config or any certification paper ?
Hi karen,
I dont see the HPE 5950 switch on the list. I’m aware there’s a strategic agreement between both companies for using mellanox nics on the hpe servers and lot of use cases on the web but i just google it and cant find any info on the cable to use to connect both. From mellanox or from hpe. So the question is if someone tested or have this config working ? Im almost sure that shoul be no issue if i use any of the cables from both companies. Hpe dont check on switch side and i believe mellanox nic card also dont check or deny to use a standard dac cable. Comments and feedback welcome from community.
Hi,
Please see the following release note document for tested modules and cable (Passive Copper cable and SFP28) with your card MCX4121A-ACAT:

Thank you,
Karen.
Hi,
From Mellanox side I don’t see that this specific type of switch was tested but there should be no issue as long as the used cable is spec compliance.
I found online the switch datasheet document , you can see tested cables from HP:
HPE FlexFabric 5950 Switch Series - Data sheet (Data sheet/4AA6-5303ENW.pdf) https://www.hpe.com/h20195/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=4AA6-5303ENW
Thank you,
Karen.
I know a professional vendors called 10Gtek who manufactures DAC. They provide twinax coppers or DACs which are fully compliant with MSA. I believe they should have what you are looking for, because their DAC has many compatible brands, including HPE and Mellanox.
