Inquiry about CYPD4226-40LQXIT Firmware Requirement on NVIDIA Orin Development

Hello everyone,

I am designing a hardware solution based on the NVIDIA Orin development board. I plan to remove the power delivery section and retain the CYPD4226-40LQXIT on the PCB to maintain signal continuity with the Orin module.

My question is regarding the firmware requirement for the CYPD4226-40LQXIT:

Firmware Requirement: Since I will not be using the power delivery functionality, do I need to load firmware onto the CYPD4226-40LQXIT, or can I rely on the default configuration of the chip? Will the default configuration be sufficient for the signals used by the Orin module?

Any insights or guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance!

Hi,
Please help check the schematic of developer kit:

Jetson Download Center | NVIDIA Developer

And point out which part you would like to remove. Would like to be more clear for this query.

Hi,

Taking as reference the schematic files of the development board, we have removed the control logic from sheet number 0029_USB PD Path.

Below are some images showing that what is outlined in yellow has been removed from the circuit, leaving only the load switches with the signals USBC1_VBUS and USBC2_VBUS.

In our design, we will use a 12V jack for power input and a Type A USB connector.

Regards.

Hi, we don’t have suggestion on your changes as it is not validated. We only support below design in Design Guide. You may need to check with vendor of CYPD4226-40LQXIT for your custom design.

As said in the Design Guide:

USB Type C PD Controller: Designs that intend to follow the NVIDIA carrier board design and include the Type C PD Controller (CYPD4226 - U513 on the P3737 carrier board) must replicate the circuitry on the latest carrier board exactly. The firmware binary is used to program the Cypress CYPD4226 controller and is available on the Jetson Download Center. The posting is titled Cypress Firmware Binary for USB Type-C PD controller (CYPD4226). The customer should get the flashing instructions from Cypress. No support or source code is provided for this firmware. If modifications or source code is required, Cypress should be contacted directly for support. This firmware binary is released under the L4T firmware EULA.

Ok, I’m going to consult with Cypress.
