Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyError: Can't open display: :0

Hello everyone,

I changed username nvidia with something else on tx2. I was able to run xclock after that. But now I am getting this error “Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyError: Can’t open display: :0” after a couple of reboots. can anyone tell me what could be the reason. I manually edited /etc/passwd, /etc/group, /etc/shadow files to change username. is username nvidia required on tx2?

Hi @shivlal12345, can you try adding your user to the video group as shown in this post?

Issues with user accounts on TX2

it’s already been added to video group . it worked for sometime but now i am getting this error

Hi, I edited /etc/group file to replace user nvidia with something else. So it’s already been added to video group. everything was working fine initially. it stopped working after a few reboots.

if i copy xauthority file from /home/nvidia to /home/new_user. it works. what is the permanent fix?

can anyone reply?

Hi @shivlal12345 - sorry for the delay. I don’t have an xauthority file in my user’s home directory - it seems related to X11 forwarding. Perhaps the issue was related to that if you were using X11 forwarding.
