I can hear a very audible coil whine or grinding type noise when the GPU is under load, such as during the testing phases of building out jetson-containers images or during inference while running models with Ollama. If anyone has suggestions for additional helpful information to include, I will post it.
I hear it too! Sounds a bit like a mechanical hard drive, analog vibes. Is it bad?
The noise you observed during GPU load is a known issue and NVIDIA has identified the root cause and corrections. Please refer to the ACN-1 entry in the Jetson Thor Errata for further information.
Note that this issue does not affect the operation or lifespan of the Jetson Thor module.
New Ordering Part Numbers (OPNs) reflecting this fix will be announced shortly.
Thank you for the update!
The important thing is that there are no consequences on performance and lifespan.
For my taste that little noise is even pleasant, and useful to understand when the load is high: for example I can hear clearly when exactly the FoundationPose inference is running during the Pick and Place workflow in Isaac ROS, which is quite cool TBH.
@marco.pastorio Haha I do kind of like hearing it working as well, it was making me a little nervous though too.
Good to know it’s supposed to be benign. And that there may be options for those who want to get the updated hardware.
