Jetson Product Selection

Hello, can Nvidia provide a roadmap or slide deck on the future of the jetson family?

For a new robotics product, what series is recommended?

I don’t have details, but Orin is the newest release. There is software maintenance for most of the hardware, but new feature development stopped at L4T R32.x on earlier models. For Xavier, L4T R35.x is the last release with new features. Then Xavier goes into maintenance. Orin runs on L4T R35.x or R36.x, where R36.x is currently developer preview, and Orin will get new features for some time. Orin is also far higher performance than much of the older devices.

Can I get additional details? Anything Orin is recommended for new products?

The different models have different power consumption requirements since some have more CPU cores than others. The Orin Nano has lowest performance (but it is still a lot), and thus lowest power requirement, and is small form factor. The Orin NX is the same form factor, but significantly higher performance (and thus also more power consumption). The AGX Orin is the highest performance, it is bigger, it is heavier, and it uses more power. It is a tradeoff (and is the most expensive).

Incidentally, each Jetson has power mode models which can be changed. For example, max performance mode, or lower power modes. So each version has a limit on its max performance, but each can also be forced into a lower performance mode for reasons like power reduction.

It depends on what you need, and the environment. There are also industrial versions. I think all Orin will have good new feature support for some time and maintenance releases far longer. I couldn’t answer which specific version you would want, but if someone is going to answer this, then you would need more details, e.g., if it has weight or power restrictions, if you need a certain number of cameras, their format (like CSI versus ethernet versus USB), so on.
