Yup - same problem here. It´s the waiting game again - while losing money. FCP X is to slow without the CUDA driver. Can´t work. Shame.
MacOS 10.13.3…
Hi!
Have anyone else encountered this error message?
After finishing step one, and re-starting my computer, this message comes up after opening the WebDriver-387.10.10.10.25.156.pkg-package I downloaded from nVIDA after following the link in the first post of this thread. After this message I am not able to continue my installation of the driver.
Have anyone else been struggling with this one?
My computer is a mid 2012 MacBook Pro Retina, updated to High Sierra v10.13.3, with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, 1 GB.
Hi all,
I do have problems since 10.13 release and I came across these funny/annoying things:
I have two indentical 1050ti. No matter which one is on pci lane 1, has problems with acceleration, dock transparency and window movement…
Card on what else slot works perfect.
Booted from 10.12 drive, everything is smooth no matter which combination…
either Nvidia drivers are faulty, or OS X has a glitch with the x16 lane.
Macpro 2009
Thanks
Guys honestly I’m done. I’m switching back to Sierra 10.12. There’s barely any difference between the two OS’s and the under the hood improvements in performance with Metal 2 have obviously been less important than the GPU functioning properly.
An utter disgrace in 2018. Wow
I have a Mac Pro 5,1 with 1x GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2047 MB and just upgraded to OSX 10.13.4 Beta (17E160e), and now I can’t install the latest driver (WebDriver-387.10.10.10.25.159.pkg) because the installer reports 17E160e is not supported.
I am pulling my hair out. I have been struggling with High Sierra and the rendering issues (OpenGL?) whenever I run apps like Chrome and Firefox. The app screen appears to have corrupted GPU memory and eventually causes the desktop environment to crash, bringing me back to the login screen and closing all my apps. This happens every 10-60 minutes. My Mac Pro has been rock solid up until I installed High Sierra in Jan 2018. When I boot to my old HDD with Mountain Lion, there is no issue.
Any help is appreciated.
Can someone point me to the driver source?
Maybe we can debug it ourselves.
Hi BrianOBrien,
I haven’t been able to get these to install yet, since the latest OSX beta (17E160e) is unsupported. I’m back down to the old OSX official driver with the same issues. I’m going to try to install my card in a different PCI slot just to see if what mthemelis said helps at all.
Here is x.158:
https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/387/WebDriver-387.10.10.10.25.158.pkg
Here is x.159:
https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/387/WebDriver-387.10.10.10.25.159.pkg
Another good resource:
Update:
I used the utilities to patch x.159 and the desktop manager has not crashed yet, but Google Chrome and FF still lag very badly and the GPU memory still appears to be corrupted. SysPref>CUDA panel reports that the OSX official Nvidia driver is running (355.11.10.10.30.120), even though SysPref>NVIDIA Driver Manager reports that 387.10.10.10.25.159 is running. I’m not sure which one is accurate.
@Sonaro I’m curious about your comment on moving PCI slots. What’s your host computer?
Are You Guys don’t read before comments or what!
Switch off SIP and install drivers. For now this resolve all problems…
If you are an apple developer you may be able to get a beta version of macOS 10.13.3 (17D102).
Then install x.159:
https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/387/WebDriver-387.10.10.10.25.159.pkg
and bob’s your uncle!
Thanks Sonaro!
The Alternative To A Mac Upgrade
When you are using a Mac sometimes you can notice that over time your computer will be slower with a bit more lag than you are used to and that’s because sometimes information gets truly clogged up and starts overlapping and really destroying the functions that should perform normally. You do not need to upgrade your Mac anymore not with Detox your Mac. What this program does is it truly helps to clean out everything in your Mac and make it function better and faster than it has in a long time. Sometimes even restoring the factory quickly you had when you bought the computer to begin with. When you use a computer it becomes absolutely filled up with useless files and copies of files which you thought you might have gotten rid of but the fact of the matter is that everything is stored on a computer until you can really get in there and clean it with a product such as Detox my Mac simply because it gets down deep into the computer to places that a normal Mac user wouldn’t even go to look for things. Understanding full well that Mac computer are not cheap means that instead of getting an even more expensive upgrade you can actually use this product to help clean out everything that need to be cleaned out and get your computer up and running at peak performance.
Within just a few seconds after starting the program you can have it go through hundreds of thousands of files getting rid of everything that is useless. Having a hard drive full of useless information really does make things so much harder on the computer itself and can be a true frustration to someone who really needs to just get the job done on the computer but instead they are having to wait longer and longer periods of time for loads and downloads or even for the initial startup of the computer before they can get anything done. That’s the great thing about Detox my Mac is that it takes your computer and goes through file by file and everything that is useless it will get rid of it and help restore the Mac back to a point where you can actually get what you need to get done without issues or waiting or even the dreaded crashing. It’s not the standard files it goes through it also goes through the logs which can totally slow down the whole function of the computer even though they aren’t needed except for in development states that doesn’t seem to matter, this program will truly get in there and with an intelligent nature it will get rid of all the log files. It will also go through the language files and get rid of all the unused language files as well. This is very important because it can take a huge portion of your hard drive just storing unused languages and this gets rid of all of it.
You will be getting with the Detox my Mac program the most innovative and powerful product in the world when it comes to this kind of software. You get absolutely instant access to the program with a very quick download. You will get totally free upgrades for life with this program as well which means that you will never again pay for another update like with most software you will pay a one time fee of $37.95 and you will have everything that you need at your finger tips. You will have a safe and trusted program which is the industry leader in it’s field, and that means that you get 24 hour a day 7 day a week support if any issue comes up. You also get a 60 day money back guarantee which means that if for any reason you do not like what you’ve gotten or it didn’t work as well as you’d expected in 2 months then you can return it for the full price you paid for it and not a cent less. Detox my Mac is truly the best program you can get to help get your Mac back in factory fastness and standard. Read more here - Detox My Mac™ | Clean Up and Speed Up Your Mac!

I am about to lose my mind. I think I have tried everything here. I got it to work briefly but then it reverted again.
I was originally on High Sierra 10.13.1 and tried everything, but it looked like people were having more luck with 10.13.3. So I did the following:
Uninstalled web driver (through Settings) (restart)
Uninstalled CUDA driver (restart)
Checked for any other CUDA or nvidia files with “Clean My Mac” application
Upgraded from High Sierra 10.13.1 to 10.13.3
Disabled SIP (System Integrity Protection)
Installed CUDA driver 387.128 (restart)
Installed Web driver 387.10.10.10.25.156 (restart)
CUDA “Update Required” went away, and CUDA in Adobe Premiere Pro CC was available
Shut down to enable SIP again. Upon rebooting, it would freeze on startup (Apple logo, progress bar, frozen loading wheel)- tried shutting down 3 times.
Booted to utility, did first aid on disks nothing was wrong. Still was freezing on startup, so I shut down and reset NVRAM and it booted. When I logged in, Update Required is back, and the CUDA option in Premiere Pro has disappeared.
I restarted a few times for good measure, but it didn’t do the trick.
Edit: The web driver appears to be incompatible. I realized the NVRAM reset put the Nvidia driver back to the macOS one. When I switched it to the web driver and it restarted, it froze on boot up again until I reset the NVRAM once more, and it went back to macOS driver. Which means I still get the update required and can’t use CUDA.
I am about to pull my hair out.
I’m on a Macbook Pro (Retina 15-in Mid 2014), with a GeForce GT 750M (as well as an Iris Pro built in). Any help? Please? I would be incredibly grateful.
Hi, I have a similar system because I have a MacBook Pro (late 2013). Anyway, I didn’t have to touch SIP on macOS 10.13.3. Thus, I simply done the following to get things working:
Things To Do
- install the Nvidia Web Driver 387.10.10.25.161
-
check Nvidia menu item and make sure that it’s set to Nvidia Web Driver
-
reboot system
-
check Nvidia menu item and make sure that it’s set to Nvidia Web Driver. if not set correctly,
go to step (2). Othewise, go to step (5) -
install the Nvidia CUDA Toolkit 9.1
https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads?target_os=MacOSX&target_arch=x86_64&target_version=1013
- complete the macOS CUDA Toolkit setup instructions (1 - 4)
https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/cuda-installation-guide-mac-os-x/index.html
Things To Not Do After You Get Things Working
-
reset NVRam - this will reset the Nvidia driver back to the Default macOS Driver which ships with
macOS -
one shouldn’t have to disable SIP being that this could potentially introduce a security hole within
your system -
if you’re wanting to maintain functionality of Nvidia Web Driver and CUDA Toolkit, update macOS when
there’s an Nvidia Web Driver which supports a build of macOS.
BTW, I have made each and everyone of the above mistakes and I wish you the best of luck in getting things working on machine.
Thank you SO MUCH conradwt- it’s finally working at last! Eureka!! I’d give you a big hug if I could!
Ok, does anyone know if it´s safe to install mac os 10.13.4? Or will I loose my cuda driver? Currently running 10.13.3 with cuda driver 387.178 and gpu driver 387.10.10.10.25.161. Having no problems. But I would like it to stay that way. Cheers.
@drajevolitch Yes, it’s safe to upgrade to macOS 10.13.4 because Nvidia has released Web and CUDA drivers for macOS 10.13.4. Also, if you have the current Web and CUDA drivers installed, you’ll be prompted to update them after upgrading to macOS 10.13.4.
@conradwt Ok thanks! Im gonna try it now. Fingers crossed:)
Has anyone heard that Apple is going all 64 bit?
I’m wondering how that effect device drivers etc from nVidia.
