Hi, I am developing an embedded system with the Jetson Orin Nano board. As a display, I am currently working with a Waveshare 5.5" AMOLED display, which only has an HDMI input. The resolution is 1920x1080, 60 Hz. I can get the display to show properly in single-display mode connected to the DisplayPort out of the Jetson via a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. I would also like to have the option of using an external monitor with a cloned screen. As an external monitor, I have a Viewsonic VX4381-4K, also set to 1920x1080, 60 Hz. I am using the NVIDIA carrier board.
I have tried the following configuration:
Jetson Orin Nano DisplayPort Out to ViewSonic VX4831-4K DisplayPort In, then ViewSonic VX4381-4K DisplayPort Out to DisplayPort to HDMI converter cable to HDMI In on the Waveshare screen.
The ViewSonic displays properly but on the Waveshare screen which is the secondary screen in the chain I am getting a garbled image where the very top of the image in portrait orientation is clean, but about the top third is garbled and the bottom two thirds or so is blank. That’s if I get an image at all. Often I will get a flashing light indicating no signal.
I have tried two different DisplayPort to HDMI converter cables.
I have yet to see smaller screens on the market that may have a DisplayPort In cable - most have HMDI or occasionally USB-C. What advice do you have for getting this dual display scenario working? I am trying the daisy-chain MST approach which seems to be what the forums suggest. I’m sure there may be advice to ditch the HMDI and keep it all DisplayPort but like I said, I’m not seeing a product in that size on the market.
I am also considering trying a DisplayPort to dual HDMI adapter hub and seeing if I get any different behavior going that route rather than through the DisplayPort out of the Viewsonic monitor.
Thank you,
Mike
Hi,
The only official way to support dual monitor is through MST hub on DP.
Yes, I understand it needs to use MST. Are you saying that it cannot have an HDMI anywhere in the path (e.g. no use of DisplayPort to HDMI converter), which which appear to preclude to the use of small screens in dual display as there are not screens with DisplayPort input in small form factor on the market? Or are you saying that it needs a MST hub rather than using the DisplayPort out of the ViewSonic monitor and use the DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. What I am not understanding is if the output of the Displayport is good going into the hub, why it would not be ok coming out of HDMI from a Displayport to HDMI adapter?
Thank you,
Mike
Is this situation reproduced on NV devkit or a custom board? Is the adapter an active one or not?
Hi, I am using the Jetson Orin Nano developer kit which uses the NVIDIA carrier board.
I have tried a StarTech adapter which is an active converter. Some info below from the product listing. I also tried a XiAyriky DisplayPort to HDMI cable. That one does not list Active in the product description so I assume it is not active. Info on that follows the info on the StarTech adapter.
