Hello, thinking to install manually NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 620M (1GB) drivers (downloaded from NVIDIA website) on Acer Notebook with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (bought with Windows 7 OS, now just with Ubuntu OS) but not sure if they will work on 22.04 distro. Is NVIDIA still developing those drivers for this Ubuntu distro? Or have I to install an older distro? In this case, what is the most recent Ubuntu distro I can install? Can someone help me? Many thanks
Hi @leosereniprobi and welcome to the NVIDIA developer forums.
I recommend having a look at my Knowledge Base article, it should give you some insight on how to get a proper driver.
You should also be ok with using the Ubuntu distribution driver in the “Additional Drivers” tab of the “Software & Updates” installer tool. Just make sure to follow the installation instructions to the letter and it should work.
Good luck!
Hi MarkusHoHo, thanks very much for your reply.
On Ubuntu forum, on which I requested assistance, they said that my NVIDIA drivers (I have already downloaded the right ones) non longer work on my OS because my kernel (ubuntu 22.04) no longer supports those drivers. They are too old for Ubuntu 22.04 kernel.
Have to install an older distro of Ubuntu (maybe 16.04): then the “Additional drivers” tab will work again (now, it cannot detect proprietary drivers at all).
Is there a way to know what is the last kernel/Ubuntu distro which supports my drivers?
Thanks you again for your help!
Please read the KB article I linked above, or go directly to Official Drivers | NVIDIA and add your GPU details:
This will lead you to the most current download.
Make sure to read the README file to understand any possible limitations with respect to kernel versions.
