NVIDIA login loop error in Ubuntu

Hello! I was redirected here by customer support. Here is the original message:

Dear Nvidia! I am having some unfortunate problems with installing the correct drivers
on Ubuntu (16.04). I suspect the error is, in fact, laying on your side.
Would it be possible you could confirm this, and possibly also help me fix it?
The error and system requirements are described here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/866854/login-loop-with-nvidia-drivers-another-one

Thank you a lot! =)
Regards,
LEGOlord208 (stupid name, yes I know)

A tip for Linux Mint users who find it desirable or necessary to change from one nVidia driver version to another:

  • Via Driver Manager install xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

  • Reboot

  • Then install the desired version of the nVidia binary driver

  • Reboot

Note: Depending upon the current state of your OS’ driver situation you may have to boot into ‘Recovery Mode’ and keep clicking ‘OK’ until you reach the desktop to follow the above tip.
