Nvidia P2000 Fan speed

Hello,

The fan speed of my NVIDIA P2000 graphics card is higher when the graphics card is not in use, and when the graphics card is in use, the fan speed is lower.

When the GPU is in use, the fan speed drops at exactly the same moment, and when the GPU is no longer in use, the fan speed increases suddlently.

  • GPU Name: Quadro P2000
  • Cuda Version: 12.4
  • Architecture: Pascal
  • Driver Version: 550.100
  • PCIe GEN: 3
  • PCIe Link Width:16
  • Display_active: Disabled
  • vbios version: 86.06.3F.00.30
  • OS: Debian 12

Can you help me to understand why my graphic card is behaving strangely ?

Thank you for your help.

Hi @pxj6rrwfpn ,

Thank you for reporting the issue.

  1. Can you please grab a NVIDIA bug report from your system and attach it here. Please run nvidia-bug-report.sh as root/sudo user after you observe the issue.
  2. What does ‘graphic card not in use’ mean in this context? What applications use the GPU when it is in use?
  3. Did this work as expected on a previous driver? Can you please share the version, if any?

A higher fan speed should cause a lower temperature, and the graph shows exactly the type of relationship between fan speed and temperature that one would expect when everything is working properly. Can you please help me understand the issue.

Hi @pxj6rrwfpn ,

I have updated the bug with a few questions. Can you please confirm that you receive a notification when I add a public comment to the bug?

Thanks!

Indeed, I enable persistence mode around 00:20 UTC, and the behavior changed completely.

It seems like things are back normal now.

Could you please confirm that the fan speed is appropriate for the tempature ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello,
Did you have time to see my last response?

I have an additional question regarding Persistence mode.
I used this commande : (nvidia-smi -pm 1) and the GPU behavior is better, but I noticed that it disables itself upon reboot.
I saw that there is a “Persistence” command : nvidia-persistenced
Can you confirm if it will remain active after a reboot? If not, could you tell me how to ensure it stays enabled?

Thank you.
