Nvidia tx2 get errors with ubuntu 16.04

hi. i got truble with ubuntu 16.04.

i installed jetpack 3.1, tensorflow 1.4 and some libararies. and then i restarted tx2 board. however only i can see was the middle of my screen, the things when you start ubuntu, without menu and launcher bar.

so what can do to fix this situation. plz help me :-(

Is your monitor purely HDMI? Or is there an adapter somewhere?

If you are able to get to command line (e.g., serial console or CTRL-ALT-F2 or ssh), then does this show all ok?

sha1sum -c /etc/nv_tegra_release

first my monitor is purely HDMI.

then i did all you said. and it said all .so files are okay.

Would you post the content of “/var/log/Xorg.0.log”? Also, I would like to be sure the PC which flashed this did not truncate the file system by running out of space (flash takes an enormous amount of disk space and the PC host won’t complain if it runs out). To do this, cd to where the flash took place and run “df -H .” (the “.” is important).

sorry. i’m not sure you want to see that file like this.

and i ran ‘df -H’ with . but it said there are no such command.

Specifically, i install h5py in my jetson tx2 board. but because its downloading time was so long, i thought this stopped on a dime. so i restarted ubuntu.

and as you know, when it restated, the screen went changed.

It is suspcious that “df” does not exist since this is part of package “coreutils”. Something is wrong if that is missing. However, I am wanting to know the result of this on the host PC, not the Jetson. First cd to wherever your JetPack or driver package was installed and run from, then run “/bin/df -H .”.

FYI, if you hover your mouse over the quote mark icon in the upper right of your post you’ll see some other icons show up. One is a “pencil” which lets you edit your post. If you edit and highlight the Xorg log with the mouse and then click on the “</>” icon (the “code” icon), then formatting will be preserved and scrollbars will be added.

I see the log suggesting it set mode to 1920x1080, but I’m not sure why it shows this:

[ 5334.878] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "HDMI-0: nvidia-auto-select @1920x1080 +0+0 {ViewPortIn=1920x1080, ViewPortOut=1920x1080+0+0}"

[ 5334.926] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "HDMI-0: nvidia-auto-select @1920x1080 +0+0 {ViewPortIn=1920x1080, ViewPortOut=1920x1080+0+0}"
[ 5334.959] (EE) NVIDIA(0): <b>Failed to set the display configuration.</b>

I’m not familiar with h5py, but from what I’ve read it is just a viewer of some data format. Normally a simple viewer program would not interact with the X GUI except when it runs, and any issue would go away after reboot. Something else may have been altered by installing it, but since the nv_tegra_release sha1sum was good I doubt it matters. On the other hand I think you need to find out why “df” is missing on your host PC (or on the Jetson…it is serious if coreutils are missing). Missing files and filled file system there could account for oddness via a flash not being complete. Does your host not have “/bin/df” or “/usr/bin/df”?

sorry for late because i’m student preparing my final exam.

what does it mean the host PC exactly? i don’t use PC when i install some libraries. so, i ran ‘df’ on my laptop using for installing jetpack 3.0 on my jetson board.

in there, df command doesn’t have “-H.” option except “-h”

last night, to fix this situation, i installed “gnome”. luckily, it worked.
but the other environments are still not working.

The host PC is any external x86_64 (64-bit Intel CPU-based) ordinary desktop computer. This is required for a Jetson in recovery mode because the Jetson becomes a custom device over USB in that case…the “driver package” (which JetPack is a front end to even if you choose to use JetPack instead of manual flash) lives on x86_64 and understands this custom USB device. This is how a Jetson which has no boot capability can get its eMMC written (tools running on an ordinary desktop PC running Linux can write to a recovery mode Jetson…other types of computes, e.g., RPi or other Jetsons, cannot…their CPU architecture is wrong).

If you have never flashed, then you won’t have ever dealt with this…but if you have never flashed, then you have some really old software even if you ran “apt-get upgrade”. The install of JetPack3.1 implies you have flashed from an x86_64 desktop PC (host).

You can see the L4T release version (basically the Ubuntu with NVIDIA drivers combination) from:

head -n 1 /etc/nv_tegra_release

The earlier sha1sum command on the nv_tegra_release checks if the user space NVIDIA drivers are in place.

Most all Linux systems have “df”. There is a space between the “-H” and the “.” of “df -H .”. The “.” is an alias for “the current directory” (and “…” is an alias for the parent of the current directory). “df -H” will work without the " .“, but then it shows all locations on the system…by using cd to go to a location and adding " .” then disk specs work for the disk providing that location. If you lack “df”, then your JetPack3.1 flash failed to completely install the operating system.

It isn’t possible to install JetPack on the Jetson, it can only be installed on a host PC (an ordinary desktop Intel-based CPU…AMD CPUs are also Intel-based…it’s the instruction set, not the brand). The computer used to run the install is the one where “df -H /where/ever/JetPack/is” needs to be run. The content of the Jetson may have been truncated and behave oddly if the host PC lacked space (flash takes a lot of space on the host PC).

What computer did you use to run JetPack from (the host PC)?
