Orin Nano 8GB pinmux dtsi not work

I want to change the PQ02 IO to output mode. First, I used the pinmux spreadsheet to generate the DTSI file and replaced bootloader/generic/BCT/tegra234-mb1-bct-pinmux-p3767-hdmi-a03.dtsi, but the flashing failed.

Then I restored the DTSI file and directly modified the original DTSI file by changing the content of PQ02 as follows. The flashing was successful, but after booting into the system, I found that it was still in input mode.

please review below steps to apply pinmux configuration.

(1) Generate device tree files and name them as pinmux.dtsi and gpio.dtsi (remember to modify the #include in pinmux.dtsi for gpio.dtsi)

(2) Put pinmux/gpio device trees to correct path.
pinmux.dtsi in <Linux_for_Tegra>/bootloader/generic/BCT/
gpio.dtsi in <Linux_for_Tegra>/bootloader/

(3) Modify the following line in <Linux_for_Tegra>/p3701.conf.common
- PINMUX_CONFIG="tegra234-mb1-bct-pinmux-p3701-0000-a04.dtsi";
+ PINMUX_CONFIG="pinmux.dtsi";

(4) Flash the board to apply the change

(5) Run the following commands to control the pin

$ sudo su
# gpioset --mode=wait `gpiofind "PR.00"`=1
1 Like

Now I can flash successfully and control IO output successfully. I think I didn’t modify #include so the flash failed.

Besides gpioset --mode=wait, is there any background way to permanently modify the IO status without starting the gpioset process?

you may toggle initial state via pinmux spreadsheet, i.e. (Int PU or Int PD).

I need to dynamically modify the IO state during system use. I want to find a replacement for gpioset that can be executed only once. Is there any solution?

please use libgpiod tools for modify the IO state dynamically.
for instance, The new GPIO Interface on the Raspberry PI: libgpiod | Lloyd Rochester's Geek Blog

libgpiod and gpioset are essentially the same. It seems that they can only modify the IO state during the program running, but cannot be retained after the program exits.

may I have more details about your real use-case.

For example, sometimes it’s necessary to change the state of the on-board LED. I would like to be able to call a command to set it directly, rather than starting a process and leaving it running in the background.

What do you mean about “sometimes”?
Control GPIO during runtime dynamically? Or control GPIO at boot up for the desired state.

There’re few approach for this use case.

  1. Use GPIO API from driver like gpio_set() function in your custom driver
  2. create custom service with gpiod command to control the pin permanently.
  3. control it in device tree through adding gpio-hog property
