PC Boots to Black Screen After New GPU Install

Hi all,

This afternoon I replaced my PC’s RTX 2060 Super with a new RTX 5080. I am running Rocky Linux 9. Prior to this point everything worked normally. Could someone help me debug what’s happening? I’ve attached my error log (nvidia-bug-report.log.gz).

Thank you!

Also see attached for my Xorg.0.log file.

My similar issue (2060 → 5060) was that resizable BAR and above 4G decoding weren’t on in the BIOS. Furthermore, you need to install the “open” version of the driver for Blackwell to work.

Thanks! How do I install the open version of the driver?

I guess it depends on the distro. I got it from the “Proprietary GPU Drivers” PPA here:

Don’t rely on the driver manager, but install manually nvidia-driver-575-open for instance.

@adam.r.harden have you upgraded the driver yet? Blackwell GPUs are not supported by older drivers, you need to use the open ones.

Check the driver licensing. It should be like

license: Dual MIT/GPL
