I recently put together a step-by-step guide on how to install NVIDIA’s open-source drivers for RTX 50 Series (i.e. Blackwell) GPUs on Linux - which I’ve tested on my MSI RTX 5080 Gaming Trio OC White.
It also includes a few lines on CUDA enablement and PyTorch testing, but the core is the driver installation flow using the 575.51.02 open kernel modules.
If you’ve been looking to solve the persistent “No devices were found” error shown by the nvidia-smi command, this guide should help you get in the right direction and finally get your graphics card up and running.

Hello, thank you very much for taking the time and setting up the link here for the site you set up. I used the information you provided, i used 580.142 on Ubunto 24.02. The gcc was the same, I didn’t have to alternatives!!! horray gcc 13.3 for the driver 580.142 and ubuntu 24.02. I did have to set wayland to false. I have another GPU board in a slot from another vendor, the set up ran just fine. I first tiried using my faaavorite OS of all time, voidlinux. but since that is a very specific distro, i set dual boot with ubuntu for testing and viola, the set up is good now. I used 5060ti with ollama inside docker for compute. frigate running another gpu using vaapi. system cpu very low, I saw 5060ti. Oh one very import thing: the card rests at PCIe 1x. When the GPU is loaded, the nvtop changes to PCIe 3x. I took CMOS battery out of motherboard, brand new 2023, reset bios settings, the very last setting on the menu dell 5810 is the Gen3 setting for the buss. thank you. may peace work through you and your hands while you administer your systems.
