Procedure for A_kernel update FAILED - 5.1 to 5.1.1

Hi all,
I initially installed Jetpack 5.1 on my ORIN NX with:

sudo ./apply_binaries.sh

sudo ./tools/l4t_flash_prerequisites.sh

sudo ADDITIONAL_DTB_OVERLAY_OPT=“BootOrderNvme.dtbo” ./tools/kernel_flash/l4t_initrd_flash.sh --external-device nvme0n1p1 -c tools/kernel_flash/flash_l4t_external.xml -p “-c bootloader/t186ref/cfg/flash_t234_qspi.xml” --showlogs --network usb0 p3509-a02+p3767-0000 internal

Now I want to upgrade to 5.1.1 editing the apt sources.

I followed How to Install JetPack :: NVIDIA JetPack Documentation but I got into this error:

I’m not sure what would cause this.

Could you help to use custom BSP package of JP5.1.1 to flash the board?

I’m using a Seeedstudio A203v2.

I confirm I have no problem with flashing either the Jetpack 5.1 or Jetpack 5.1.1 separately, but I face the error when I try to upgrade it from 5.1 to 5.1.1. That would have helped me saving time with recompiling some big packages as ROS2.

I’ve just retried flashing Jetpack 5.1. I only updated/upgraded all the packages before trying the dist-upgrade.

So, it seems you could flash either JP5.1 and JP5.1.1 and boot up successfully.
Your question is about updating from JP5.1 → JP5.1.1

Could you refer to the following instructions to upgrade Jetpack from JP5.1(R35.2.1) to JP5.1.1(R35.3.1)?

and share me the serial console logs while it is upgrading.

Your procedure looks very similar to what I reported in my first topic. It doesn’t include sudo apt install --fix-broken -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" that is done (and reported) AFTER dist-upgrade.

I updated the sources to 35.3.1 and you can find the serial logs while it’s upgrading (sudo apt dist-upgrade) in the same topic above.

Yes, it’s the similar procedure.

It seems you enabled ROOTFS_AB=1 for your rootfs.
If you want to update through apt command, you might need to do it twice (once in slot0, once in slot1).

In addition, have you formatted NVMe drive as ext4 before use?

Good question. I don’t remember it at the moment…
Either I formatted it to ext4 before flashing (with gparted) or I let the flash script above to prepare the partitions with a brand new NVME SSD.

Hmm it seems it has AB partitions but I’m quite sure I never used ROOTFS_AB before, specially during flashing.
Recently I’m testing backup/restoring using

sudo ./tools/backup_restore/l4t_backup_restore.sh -b p3509-a02+p3767-0000

and

sudo ./tools/backup_restore/l4t_backup_restore.sh -r p3509-a02+p3767-0000

Does the first command create an image with ROOTFS_AB into images by default?

It seems the Jetpack5.1.1 is the first official release for Orin NX.
Could you help to verity apt based upgrade from JP5.1.1 to JP5.1.1+?
The new version would be released soon.

To be honest, JP5.1.1 is the first release for ORIN NX 8GB but in my case I’m using the 16GB supported by JP5.1.
I will let you know about upgrading JP5.1.1 to the next release!
