PX2 with X11 disabled?

I’d like to run tests with PX2 ubuntu’s X11/lightdm disabled.
When I disable and reboot, I get a blank black screen on HDMI video-out; no console text, no login. But ssh is ok, thankfully.
On other systems, the usual next step is to add ‘nomodeset’ to the kernel boot parameters.
I understand on the PX2 this means editing linux_storage.cfg’s ‘os_args’ and compiling the kernel.

But before going through these steps, can anyone confirm that ‘nomodeset’ is the right remedy on the PX2 for getting it to boot without X11?

I am on Drive 5.0.5a
Thanks
