RTX 3050 Mobile Graphics Card Driver Crashes occasionally on Fedora 42. Nvidia-settings displays graphics processor as "unknown"

Hello,

When I’m using my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 laptop I sometimes notice that my driver has crashed and I’m unable to use my RTX 3050 mobile graphics card for any program that requires it like videogames. I am not sure what causes it but things I know about the crash are:

1)It isn’t something specific to the kernel version I am on(6.16.3). It has happened in other versions too.

2)It isn’t something specific to the driver version I am on(575.64.05). It has happened in other versions too.

3)It isn’t something related to GPU temperature because my GPU gets 75 Celcius degrees hot at most even when gaming. When idle it gets 35-40 Celcius degrees hot.

4)The crash also happens when all I do is browse the web and not do anything that requires the dGPU.

5)The crashes aren’t frequent, they happen a few times a week.

6)I’ve used both Fedora 42 Gnome and KDE and crashes happen on both.

7)If I reboot the computer everything works normally.

I’ve attached a log file and screenshot of the nvidia-settings program after the crash has happened.(nvidia-settings doesn’t look like the way it does on the screenshot when no crash has occured)

Hi @artajuan.1 , thanks for reporting this issue. Could you please check if you see this with the latest R580 driver? Please help to upload a bug report in case you see this with the R580 driver.

@artajuan.1 580 is in the testing repo

sudo dnf --enable-repo=rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing update *\nvidia\*

Hi,

I have switched to Arch Linux recently which has the R580 driver and I haven’t yet had this issue. If I experience a crash again I’ll let you know.
