RTX 5070 Ti Mobile Power Limit Capped at 65W on Ubuntu 24.04.2 (ROG G614FR) & nvidia-powerd service not found
Hi,
I’m facing an issue with my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Mobile GPU on an ASUS ROG Strix G16 G614FR running Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS. The GPU power is capped at 65W despite using a 280W power adapter, and the maximum TGP should be 140W (as shown in nvidia-smi -q -d power
). I’ve set the powermizer to “Prefer Maximum Performance” in nvidia-settings
and selected NVIDIA mode in prime-select
, but the power limit remains unchanged.
Additionally, the nvidia-powerd
service, which I understand enables Dynamic Boost, doesn’t seem to work. Running systemctl status nvidia-powerd.service
returns “Unit nvidia-powerd.service could not be found,” and nvidia-powerd --version
exits with a nonzero status.

- Set powermizer to “Prefer Maximum Performance” in
nvidia-settings
. - Ran
prime-select nvidia
to ensure NVIDIA GPU is active. - Attempted to use
nvidia-powerd
, but the service is not available.
Questions
- Is there a way to get
nvidia-powerd
working to enable Dynamic Boost? - Are there specific driver or kernel configurations I should try to resolve this limit?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
