I just installed Windows 11 and am trying to get my RTX A4000 to display full resolution. After a fresh W11 install, I log in and download the latest driver 597.06. The installation gets to the point where the display turns off and usually, that’s when it comes back on with the full resolution. In my case, it tries coming back a few times (the display remains black the whole time) and then Windows reboots. After the reboot, it can’t boot back in and I’m forced to enter safe mode and uninstall the drivers. I’ve spent a few days troubleshooting various options but nothing seems to work. I’m seeing black screen problems all over the internet, but none quite like mine and all the suggestions I’ve tried, didn’t work in my case.
For example, I tried setting the monitor to DP V1.1 from 1.2. Neither worked. I tried setting the PCIe Gen to Gen 3 because AI said there was some reason why if an older gen works, it means there is a hardware fault or the GPU isn’t seated correctly. Same result and the GPU works just fine in Ubuntu. So no hardware or connection issues. I tried changing the driver initiation time from the default 2 to 10 seconds in RegEdit (TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay set to 10), but this just bricked W11. Now it doesn’t reboot at all when the drivers fail to initiate the display.
What’s annoying is that if I disconnect the DP display while the drivers install with a VGA monitor connected with an onboard GPU and then connect the main display after the drivers install, which they do and successfully, I get the picture. But if I reboot, Windows can’t initialise the display upon boot and starts rebooting until I initiate safe mode and uninstall the drivers.
This is just a few things I’ve tried. I’ve uninstalled the drivers at least two dozen times at this point.
I tried going the static EDID route. It works. So I have to go through this routine every re-install. Not ideal but better than not having a W11 install.
