Screen tearing on Linuxmint 18.1

I experience extremely bad screen tearing on linuxmint 18.1 cinnamon. I have a gsync monitor and would like some help fixing this issue other than enabling force composition pipeline on or any thing that would conflict with gsync. This happens on other desktop environments as well. What solutions could I use?
