I have detailed some of my experience here: Sound crackling with Nvidia card | The FreeBSD Forums
While I am unsure that this is the only reason for the sound distorting, the simple polling of nvidia-settings -q OpenGLVersion > /dev/null
in a loop causes the sound in my system to crackle randomly. Playing a YouTube video and moving the mouse cursor back and forth over a scrollbar is another good way to do it. Also, note that dragging a window around the X screen is jumpy when polling this value yet not OpenGLImageSettings
. BTW, I have no idea why running the mouse over the scrollbar would do that.
Is anyone else experiencing this, even on Linux? If not, do you have a USB sound chip or is the sound system (Pulse, whatever) buffering enough to hide it? Do windows seem sluggish to you?
P.S. Would Nvidia please include CUDA with the FreeBSD libraries? 🙏 The Linux libraries work with the FreeBSD kernel, so I presume the hard part is already done.
