The GPU architecture is not supported for SASS analysis. Most source information will not be available

I am new to Nsight Compute. I’m opening my first .ncu-rep file and am seeing this warning/error. The version of nsight compute is 2025.3.1.0. Running on a mac (ARM64). Note that my co-worker with a similar setup is able to view the same .ncu-rep with no error.

Error Message:

The GPU architecture is not supported for SASS analysis. Most source information will not be available.

Please let me know if you have any ideas!

Hi, @matthew.kahane

Sorry for the issue you met.

  1. Can you please upload the report for us to check ?
  2. How is the report generated ? What is the GPU ?
  3. Are you generating it on another machine and then copy to Mac or using Mac to do remote profile ?

Hi Veraj, I cannot attach the report, but a colleague using 2.1.0 was able to view it without issue. the report is generated on another machine and then copied to mac

So you still can open the report, just with warning/error for source info.
Without further info, I am not sure how to help.

test_full_128_16.ncu-rep.zip (478.4 KB)

Here is the file. I can open it, but it shows that warning and gives almost no other information that is useful.

For instance, here is a screenshot of the speed of light throughput… note that it is expanded (arrow down) and no information is viewable.

Hi, @matthew.kahane

Thanks for providing the report. I opened it and see the same behavior as you on both linux x64 and mac arm64. And I see related metrics already collected successfully in raw page.

So I though the report may be corrupted but you said the same report can be opened successfully on other machine. I am not sure why.

Can you regenerate a report again to check ?

This report is for a Thor chip. The compute capability of this chip was changed between CUDA 12.9 and CUDA 13.0, and the respective ncu versions only understand the matching compute capabilities.

  • If you profile with an ncu from CUDA 12.9 or earlier (ncu 2025.2.1), you need to open the report with the ncu CLI or UI from 12.9 or earlier.
  • Likewise, if you profile with ncu from CUDA 13.0+ (ncu 2025.3.0), you need a CUDA 13.0+ UI.

Thank you @felix_dt this was the solution. And thank you to @veraj for jumping in and supporting.
