Three DGX Dashboard update problems, with a working reference implementation

Hi NVIDIA DGX Spark team,

I use an ASUS Ascent GX10 (GB10) every day. The DGX Dashboard “Update” button has three problems that make me avoid it. Each one has a working solution in an open-source tool I wrote (MIT), so you can take the idea or the code.

1. “Available updates” is a cached snapshot, and this is the old “Update Available again” bug. It has been reported since October 2025 (topics 348162, 354896 and 352318) and still happens on DGX OS 7.6. What I found on my machine: the badge comes from a snapshot kept by the root dgx-dashboard-admin service (D-Bus GetOTAAvailabilitySnapshot shows its “last checked” time); the web page re-reads that snapshot only every hour, and reloading the page does not trigger a re-check. Workaround that works immediately: sudo systemctl restart dgx-dashboard-admin.service, then reload. A live check, or a “check now” button, would fix this for everyone.

2. Update is all-or-nothing with a forced reboot and no way back. I cannot pick packages, I cannot see what will change (people have asked for a changelog since 348538), and if an update breaks something there is no roll-back. A working approach: simulate first and show the real change list, let the user choose, keep the replaced .deb files before installing, and offer a roll-back that is also simulated before it runs.

3. Firmware “success” is not verified. When fwupd reports a successful flash but the device version has not changed, the Dashboard shows success. Comparing the fwupd history with the current device version catches this.

Reference implementation (Python standard library, no root service, polkit for every privileged action, read-only mode for trying it): GitHub - tiong6/spark-center: Local dashboard for NVIDIA GB10 boxes (DGX Spark / ASUS Ascent GX10): selective updates, fwupd firmware check, DGX-style monitor, Ollama management, disk usage, Windows-style hardware inventory. · GitHub — details in my Projects post: Spark Center – open-source local control panel for DGX Spark / GB10 (selective apt updates, no forced reboot, NVML monitoring, fwupd check)

I’m not asking you to adopt the tool. I’d just like to see these three behaviours in the Dashboard itself. Happy to answer questions.

And since today is the Mid-Autumn Festival here in Taiwan: happy Mid-Autumn Festival to the DGX Spark team and everyone on this forum. 🥮

Just wanted to say a huge thanks; I’m loving this tool already & would recommend it to anyone as a standard part of their setup! 👍

Moreover, I’m sure I speak for the community when I say your efforts to put this together [along with the clear/transparent documentation] are an extremely welcome addition to the DGX OS ecosystem. Keep up the great work! 🎆🙂🙏

Thank you, that means a lot. You are the first person I know of who is actually running it, so your feedback is worth more than any praise.

I have only been able to test it on my own ASUS Ascent GX10. If anything looks wrong on your machine, a screenshot here or a GitHub issue would help me a lot.

Your copy will not update by itself yet. Please run git pull and systemctl --user restart spark-center once in the repo directory. From that version on, the Updates tab has a “Spark Center itself” panel that shows new commits and updates with one click.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will pass the feedback along to engineering to get suggest these features.
