Unexpected behaviour with DGX Dashboard on Spark

I successfully set up the DGX Spark and can easily run it in both local and headless mode. When running DGX Dashboard it always alerts:

Update Available

Keeping your system up-to-date is critical to ensure maximum performance”

Pressing the Update Now button proceeds to download and reboot the device. Everything comes up fine,. However, as DGX Dashboard is reopened the exact same Update Available message appears. This cycle is endlessly repeated regardless of whether I access DGX Dashboard in headless mode or directly on the device. I have not noticed this happening in the other apps accessible from Nvidia Sync.

I can always choose to close the Update Available alert and continue/disregard the notification. But this is obviously not a good practice, as I have no way of truly knowing if an update is needed.

Please advise.

Can you try manually updating your apt packages and then trying the dashboard again?

From the terminal, run:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

The system is safe to use. We are aware of the dashboard issue and will be addressing in future update.

Good to know. I did however, run the sudo apt upate and sudo apt upgrade. There was no change, as it requests the update (not a surprise based on your previous note).

Additional info…

nvidia-firmware-580 was automatically installed and listed as no longer required. Also it states the the following upgrades have been deferred due to phasing: bluez bluez-cups bluez-obexd libbluetooth3

Everything was fine (with my monitor setup) until I saw “maximum performance” on my dgx dashboard, which prompted me to update from the dashboard. Unfortunately, after that update, one of my monitors now displays a black screen. Following just seen this post exchange, I ran @dkleissas command suggestions with no change. I think I still have recover image 1.91.51 that I used to boot and believe it’s time to redo the whole system recovery process. To be honest, my expectations for Nvidia were too high, especially given it’s my first personal purchase. The past few days haven’t gone well, but I understand technical issues can occur, but not like this especially given Nvidia such vast amount of resources and the price we paid for dgx. smh.

Were you able to reimage? Are you still having issues?

Thank you following up @kberger1! To be honest, I didn’t reimage yet. This weekend, I’m planning to tackle it. The second monitor starts working with lower quality. Hopefully reimaging will help with the quality, maybe bluetooth, audio, etc.

I also have the same issue that update avaliable keep showing up after I click update icon.

My bluetooth keyboard and mouse cannot be connected to Dgx spark after incomplete software updates. Also wifi is no longer working and the wifi setting icon disappeared. Also, there are 20 lines of string filled with zeros next to Nvidia logo right before login page is loaded.

Another question: I am a user based in China. Do I need to set up VPN before doing software updates? I suspect due to the great firewall in china, it causes incomplete software updates and my OS crash. Can’t even access to GitHub or hugging face without VPN.

So I wonder do I need to hard reset my spark ? What is the solution for my problem?
