Ubuntu 18.04.3 hdmi external monitor problem. nvidia-driver-430.

I have problems connecting my external monitor with Ubuntu 18.04.3. Basically the external screen is just black. I’m using the nvidia-driver-430. I tried to switch to lightdm, but it didn’t solve the problem.

Here are some of my settings:

Note that HDMI-1 and HDMI-2 seems to be disconnected when I ran the command xrandr above.

Ok, please try this:

  • install nvidia-prime (sudo apt install nvidia-prime)
  • switch to nvidia (sudo prime-select nvidia)
  • remove stray blacklist files (sudo rm /lib/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf)
  • update the initrd (sudo update-initramfs -u)
  • reboot

There is no difference and my external monitor is still black. In Ubuntu Displays it’s not possible to see the external monitor.

I don’t have the blacklist files you mention above so I couldn’t remove them.
I include my latest bug-report.

You have secure boot enabled so the nvidia driver can’t be loaded. Please disable secure boot in bios.
