Hello! I’m also facing the problem with detection of HDMI display. Could you please help me finding solution?

You can download the log file in the following link: https://unidisc.csuc.cat/index.php/s/M8boGTOZIHAEgqx (it is bigger than 4096 KB and I could not attach it in the message)

Please help me to use my second graphic card again.
It was working for a while and as i know, i might delete some important files by mistake.

It has stopped working again, and booting to windows and back does not seems to fix it this time.

It’s a shame that this seems to be a very common problem but there is little support for it.

Hi. I`m facing a problem with HDMI display detection on Ubuntu 18.04.
Could you please help me finding a solution?

You have a very new amd/nvidia hybrid graphics which is not supported by 18.04. Please upgade to ubuntu 20.10. Otherwise you would have to manually install a newer kernel, firmware files and do some config tweaks.

Hello, I’m having the same problem with HDMI, could you please help?nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (140.4 KB)

For Kali linux, please see this:

Hello!
I’m on Xubuntu 20.04.
I have two televisions with HDMI input, when I plug the first one (FinLux) nothing happens (xrandr say that HDMI-0 is disconnected). And when the other one is plugged (Samsung) laptop screen is displayed without further action. Note that both TV are working fine on Windows 7.

Could you help me identifying the issue? This is the log with the FinLux TV plugged.nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (90.2 KB)

Nothing visible that anything is connected to the hdmi port. Already tried with another cable?

I’m having the same problem - this week my dual-boot laptop stopped detecting the secondary display attached via HDMI on Ubuntu 20.04. I’ve tried the solutions that worked for other people but it hasn’t solved the problem. nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (421.0 KB)

Does that also happen when you set nvidia-drm.modeset=1 ?

I have added this to the grub loader and it gave the same result, is that sufficient to set the modeset?

My external monitor also suddentliy stopped appearing. I habe a dual boot. On windows it works. I have a MSI GS65 with a GTX 1070 mobile. It has already happened to me a couple of times in the past and then the monitor started working again after of couple of days without any aparent reason. I read that other people here had the same problem with this laptop.

I do not have /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Secure Boot is disabled
I do not have /etc/X11/xorg.conf
I do not have any config file that has “nvidia-drm modeset”
Driver Version: 460.73.01nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (374.0 KB)

There’s no trace of any monitor detected, it’s even hard to say which gpu (intel/nvidia) the external connectors are routed to since both report a DisplayPort and HDMI connector.
Where did you connect it to (HDMI/DP)? Are any converters involved?

Edit: maybe also try a bios update.

it is connected to an HDMI port. no converters involved. External monitor says no signal detected and turns itself off

solved it by deleting
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nvidia-drm.modeset=0
in
/etc/default/grub

I have the same problem on my Ubuntu 16. Attaching bug report.

You need to install the nvidia-390 driver using the Software&Updates application.
