Unable to access GUI after NVIDIA Driver Update (GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and Ubuntu 20.04)

We have been trying to install the latest or other versions of Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu 20.04. However, Ubuntu does not open properly when we install the latest version. We can only access the Ubuntu terminal by pressing Alt+F2. In this terminal, we can check if the driver is installed or not using ‘nvidia-smi’, and we can see the driver info. But as I mentioned, Ubuntu still does not open properly. When we delete the latest version of the driver by “sudo apt-get purge ^nvidia-” command Ubuntu opens successfully.

On the other hand, when we install other versions of the driver, Ubuntu opens successfully. However, if we try to connect or check versions using ‘nvidia-smi’ again, it says ‘NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.’

We tried the solutions mentioned in the Nvidia forums website, but these solutions did not solve our problem.
