additional drivers tab on ubuntu shows that I have the proprietary, tested driver is in use(570) but when I run nvidia-smi in a terminal “no devices were found” is shown. When i ran the installer log file in a terminal “no such file or directory” is shown. This is my first computer build so I am very inexperienced. any help is greatly appreciated and I can provide any other info needed. Thanks
What GPU are you using?
GeForce RTX 5070
I saw a similar report on nvidia open driver Github: RTX 5090 not detected · Issue #872 · NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules
Does not mean your card is not used.
You are using proprietary modules, Blackwell is only supported with the open-gpu-kernel-modules. I guess your monitor works because you have an iGPU as well? Anyway, install the open-source modules and check if they are functional. I have an RTX 5060 Ti that works without issues.
There is an ambiguity with “proprietary” now. nvidia and nvidia-open are both proprietary, it is the architecture of the driver+firmware combo that changes. If you installed the non-open driver on Blackwell then you would have no graphical desktop at all. Anyway OP needs to give more details.
