- When will the Nvidia Web Drivers be released for macOS Mojave 10.14 -

It seems like we are not getting any real answers or solutions from Nvidia. I guess we are left with only two choices: Wait in Hope that Nvidia will release the drivers soon (and given their track record, it doesn’t look like that is hopeful) or Move on to AMD.

I have a 5,1 MacPro that I invested a ton into with upgraded, with everything that could be upgraded. Without thinking about the drivers, I updated to Mojave (shame on me) and the rest is history. I can’t downgrade back to high sierra, as not even my original mac video card work. Nothing work, no bootloader on any of my cards and I have the 1. Radeon 5770, GTX 970 and the 1080TI. nothing works so I bought a “XFX Radeon RX 580” just to be able to use my computer for now.

My question to anyone that can give an answer: What AMD card should I get that will bring me back up to 1080 speed?

I still have time to send back the RX580. I am not a gamer, My workload is Graphics, Photography, and Video!

Thank in advance for all the suggestions.

The Titan xp video cards were advertised with support for the x-axis.
Termination of support is fraud.

This is so embarrassing that Nvidia is ignoring our questions while Apple also just removes any mention of Mojave drivers on their discussions board. Smells conspiring. Seems like the only way to get official response from that companies is to contact them through mass media and force them to talk with people.

What’s frustrating is that the bulk of Mac users prefer nVidia. This feud between the two is hurting their customers and they don’t seem to care. nVidia seems to care a bit more, but only because they are losing business, but it’s their own heavy handed ways that caused this rift.

Does anyone think an online petition would help sway Apple in even the smallest degree?

What makes you think that the majority of Mac users prefer NVIDIA over AMD. I think the majority doesn’t care. Certain applications not made by Apple prefer NVIDIA. Clearly you lot on this forum are in that group or you happen to have chosen a NVIDIA card for your computer and have a crazy desire for the unsupported Mojave. Unfortunately for the poorly informed who leaped before looking into the proverbial empty pool and updated their Mac to Mojave without checking extensively for compatibility. Maybe your Mac is dying now and you are faced with buying a new Mac which will come with Mojave. No Mac sold today requires Mojave and one could easy create a new partition or volume and install High Sierra on it. What could possibly be so desirable about Mojave that you get so upset about the usual delay in NVIDIA coming out with Mac drivers to support this small market of Mac users and aftermarket video cards?

Here’s a thought, while you wait for an updated wed driver for your video card, research weather your printer or scanner is still supported. Check every 3rd party application and utility, every menu extra, system preference panel or plug-in to some other application. Check each LaunchAgent and LaunchDaemon. And finally who said latest is always greatest besides Apple?

Mostly my 25+ years as an independent Mac consultant and service tech. I have customers all over the DFW area and if they are representative of the average Mac user, then I can say with confidence that the majority of Mac users prefer nVidia over AMD.

True, there are a few that don’t care, but most of my customers need good video to do their work, and their play, and even the casual user seems to have taken a notice. Of course, this is only based on my experience and the 200+ customers I have helped over the years and continue to service.

Actually it’s not always the greatest. They usually have issues, but Mojave has been pretty smooth. Much smoother than High Sierra.

As a Mac consultant though, it’s my job to get these installed on my computer and test it out to find out just these kind of issues. I have already notified all my clients that if they need their nVidia cards to get work done, to hold off indefinitely until nVidia works this out.

I dont think Apple is holding something off or either Apple or Nvidia are hiding something from customers. Apple has been announcing that will abandon OpenCL and OpenGL for sometime now. When Metal 1 came out, Nvidia took a pretty long time to develop drivers and release them. Obviously there was incompetence or miscommunication on both sides. Maybe Nvidia just thought that they would have to change the build number of the driver and could call it a day or Apple just thought that Nvidia had the work done. Ive been using Nvidia for a while now, almost 5 years, and was always a pain to get something to work on Mac, I mean, their main role on the last years was focused on gaming, graphic design apps just happen to use their gaming API to run their own softwares and make them available to consumers. The marketshare of Nvidia on mac may be big, but it is not essential as they do not focus on graphic design.
Lately we have seen some movement towards bitcoin and other concepts, but it is highly possible that they will delay the release much more time.

The graphics card on my country are pretty, pretty expensive, but lose money on behalf of the wait ( almost one month if we count only the release ) is driving me nuts. Of course it is not a long wait, but I just wanted to have an always updated OS.

Of course Apple has part of blame too, but the announcements and the improvements seems to me they justify the headache. So my decision it to keep Nvidia on another computer or even sell and use the money to buy an AMD to get my life going, even tough it sucks to sell thing I bought not so long ago and is working pretty great

So can I guess, MacSavers, they use Adobe Premiere Pro and not Apple Final Cut Pro? Most of my 1000+ customers are not editing video. BTW I also have been a consultant for about 25 years.

I was thinking, if someone cares to look up the answer to the question of historically how long after High Sierra or Sierra before that was released to the public, did NVIDIA release their compatible web driver? Now it is entirely possible with security being enhanced with each new macOS release it may be increasingly difficult to produce an updated release but to gain a measure of perspective on how long is a typical wait, does anybody know how long it has taken before?

It has usually been within 3 days of a macOS release that compatible Nvidia web drivers were released. At least that’s what I remember…

“Stay with Nvidia and wait for web drivers or go to AMD?”
OFC, I’ll stay with Nvidia. Do you have any idea how to change Mobile graphics on MBP with AMD Radeon? #LoL

Keep calm guys!

Since it was included in the computer, Apple’s driver in Mojave will support it. The only way to change it is via eBay and sell the Mac.

Assuming you have a MacBook Pro 10,1-11,3, you can upgrade to Mojave right now. Drivers for your GPU are built-in to Mojave.

Congratulations then.

No, not all, but I have several. I also have several that like to use Photoshop and other apps that still take advantage of the GPU for other calculations. I also have a lot that like to game. I also have a quite a few that like to do 3D and some packages take advantage of that.

So yes, my statement, which is MY opinion, stands.

I can’t understand the excitement around here.
There is one single rule for every system:

Never change a running system

If you are depended on drivers in order to make your system work, which is clearly not supported yet, then don’t update and wait. It’s easy as that.

Going back to High Sierra and problem solved for now.

Excellent advice. :-)

I really wanted to be able to use Fusion Drive with APFS. But it’s hard to get out these Web Drivers for Mojave …

Hi everyone. Please remember to go to the top of this page and cast your vote. Thank you!
