XenServers with 3D CAD utilization via VDI passthrough GPUs, getting crashed repeatedly.
Our environment:
XenServer 6.5
XenServer NVidia drivers 361.40
VDI with Windows 7 nVidia drivers 362.13
VDA 5.6
GK107GL [GRID K1] nVidia cards
HP DL380 Gen9 Servers
We are experiencing repeated crash of our XenServers when 3D CAD work is carried out by the users.
Also we have noticed occasionally VDI shows shrinked screen (Desktop Viewer showing thick borders)
Please help us with this issue at the earliest as the production is hampered.
The black border sounds like an HDX 3D Pro like issue… I would consider raising with VMware/Citrix.
You say VDI and VDA - do you mean XenDesktop? If so what version?
What app/apps are crashing "CAD" - Catia, Autodesk?
What K1 vGPU profile is in use?
As it is the XenServer crashing - you should collect a server status report asap after issue occurs and submit it to TaaS/CIS auto-support and consider raising a support call with XenServer too.
Best wishes,
Rachel
Hello Rachel,
Thank you for the reply.
We have already raised a case with Citrix and they say it is either Hardware issue or NVidia card which is not doing the passthrough of GPU. Also we do have raised a case with HP vendor as the error found on crash dump is of PCI slot, and they are also still unable to find the cause to fix the issue.
Yes it is XenDesktop 5.6 VDI setup with Windows 7 image streamed through PVS. Receiver is latest 4.4.
Even without using graphic intensive application just by doing full screen of the VDI also the host gets rebooted.
We are using whole passthrough GPU.
Any inputs from the NVidia side is highly appreciated.

Ansar
