450.57 - Saints Row The Third native linux version, performance problems

Saints Row The Third has a native linux version and with my hardware I should be able to play it at the highest settings. I used to be able to play it at highest settings with an older CPU and older versions of the driver but lately this is not possible - I have to set everything to the lowest setting and I still get a lot of graphical stuttering, rarely exceeding 20 FPS. From what I got on Google search, it appears the linux driver is bad for this game.
Can it be optimized for this game to run normally? I tried it in Windows as well and it’s even worse there with 451.67. I could try with the latest version of the driver in Windows but I doubt it would be any different and frankly I prefer to play the native linux version, not the Windows version.
