Mad max stuttering depending on the kernel version.

I’ve had very bad stuttering with linux-4.10.3 and 4.9.14.
Tried vulkan and opengl version, both exposes the same problem.
But now i tried to roll-back the kernel to 4.8.13 while keeping nvidia drivers to 378.13 and the stuttering is gone.
I don’t know what is to blame here.
The game? The driver? The kernel? Bad interaction between gpu driver and kernel?

Gpu: Gtx750ti 2GB
Cpu: i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz
Mobo: Asus Z97-K
Memory: 8GB
Gpu driver: 378.13
Linux 4.8.13: No stuttering

Linux 4.10.3: Bad stuttering
Linux 4.9.14: Bad stuttering

I’ve had similar issues, have you tried running Steam in offline mode to see if the issue disappears? And is the stuttering intermittent like in this clip?

If so, I believe Feral are trying to chase this issue but can’t reproduce it in-house so far.

I read about the offline mode, but too late, since i already downgraded my kernel.
And no, my stuttering was way worse than yours; i could leave max in place and camera stopped and every now and then the fps dropped from 70 to 15.

This happens for me too (on linux 4.9.16, nvidia 375.26 and 378.13) and this is solved by setting Steam to offline mode in my case.

Makes sense, since linux 4.9.8 brings several network changes.

I emailed to feral my findings about kernel and steam offline stuff.
