I had those issue only becuase i updated via apt on Debian 12.
Then i purged everything and used a .run install.
Gtk works fine now.
Seems lot of the issues arise due to confgiuration problems during install.
.run is a safe bet.
Blackwell only works with open modules.
Older cards work with any.
extra note:
and purging old drivers (or running nvidia-uninstall) before new version install is a must.
The .run file detects installed drivers and asks to uninstall them first. I always the let .run file uninstall them and never had an issue with it but I will try this next time. You think there is a difference?
Came back to add GTK4 apps are hanging for me on close as well
They do need to be whitelisted, and Indiana Jones hasnāt required that environment variable since 570 afaik.
Think of it as a workaround for specific titles, much like the game profiles in Windows (if you use Nvidia Profile Inspector in Windows you will see them).
Thanks for the info. Pretty sure I had to use it for 570, maybe the early ones. i did not check again with 575 though, I only had the idea to do this with 580.
By the way, are there other āmagicā envvarsā like this one, documented somewhere?
Talking about Indiana Jones and the GC: there is now a bug with 580. Objects have no contour anymore (the yellowish shape around objects that can be picked up or interacted with). Reverting to 575 restores the correct behaviour.
Below are the bugs filed internally for tracking purpose.
5450232 Total War Warhammer 3 - blank black screen during battle benchmark with openDriver Version: 580.65.06
5450196 Driver 580 breaks the interactive object outline rendering in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but driver 575 works fine.
5450182 Game Cyberpunk 2077 freezes on 580.65.06
5449080 Logs spammed with Xid 16 and krcWatchdogCallbackVblankRecovery_IMPL with driver 580.65.06
5448800 Metro Exodus EE consistently crashes on 580.65.06
Has anyone experienced slowdowns in the browser? Iām using Chromium and Iām seeing a lot of slowdowns with the 580 beta driver that I havenāt seen with the 575
I did not get repro on below setup after running Total War Warhammer 3 benchmark for 3 cycles on XWayland and Wayland drv + scx_bpfland.
I have installed driver 580.65.06 using open kernel modules and used default graphics settings.
ASRock TRX40 Taichi + Arch Linux + kernel 6.14.5-arch1-1 + NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 + Driver 580.65.06
Display 1 - AOC AG276QZD with resolution 2560 x 1440 and refresh rate as 240 Hz, Adaptive Sync is enabled as always.
Display 2 - Asus VG27AQML1A with resolution 1920x1080 with refresh rate as 60Hz
Can you confirm graphic settings which you used (if not the default one) and any other which you think might be key factor to repro both issues.
Could you please share bug report; repro frequency and graphics settings so that we can try to match config as close as possible and retry for local repro.
