Backlight pwm is not working

Hi

we are using tft screen which using pwm-backlight module for backlight control
when the pwm is controlled manually the backlight ok but when the backlight module is configure at dts file the module appears at /sys/class/backlight but when brightness is being change nothing happens.

please can you help me to figure out what I am doing wrong?

Does changing the default brightness to 0 give you a blanked screen?

Atevery brightness level I getting a blank screen
No matter if its 0 or 10000000
I setti the screen by echo XXX > brightness

Are you able to measure the pwm pin and see if any signal from it?

Yes we probed it by using oscilloscope

So what is the result when you use the pwm-backlight driver?

When measuring with scope :
1.If using the driver we get 0 volts at any value
2.If we are using pwm directly the pwm changes as we want

What is your purpose to set brightness to 10000000?? I mean why not just write it as 255? Does this really take effect to set such large value?

As for the rest of debug, can you add some debug print to your pwm-backlight driver and see if the driver code really respond to your operation (echo) to the node?

After further debugging before prints to the logger
I could not any message which is related to the backlight pwm driver but I could see that
the driver regulator is inactive.
What could cause to that issue?

If the driver is not in use, then that regulator will be disabled. Thus, you should check why that driver is not enabled first…

I checked with prints and it seems like that the driver is working when backlight is active but somehow it’s not reach to change pwm value

without any relation to hdmi output

Then you can try to modify the driver code and let it work.

Actually, your usecase has nothing to do with upstream pwm-backlight driver at all… since no display interface is involved…

Just call similar API to control the pwm and take it as your own driver…

In addition to that if SOR2 is not active we want to make the driver inactive(pwm as0) because of that I try to make the backlight driver working at device tree.

Our HDMI or DP driver do not have PWM control. What you are doing sounds like not supported by our hardware reference design.

There is nothing special. That upstream driver is called backlight driver just because it will use some information from the display.

But that thing is not happened in your side. I mean there is no display. Thus, you can just use the pwm function call from it and write your own driver.

Actually, it is nothing different from the pwm sysfs you tried.
