[BUG] Black screen at boot with RTX 5060 Ti on ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II (no iGPU, Linux)

Hello,

I’m experiencing the exact same issue with my Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Gaming OC 16G with Asus TUF GAMING A520M-PLUS WIFI motherboard, running OS Linux Ubuntu 24.04.

This OS was installed with an AMD RX 6600 running perfectly. I’ve decided to upgrade to newer GPU to try some AI tools more efficiently because I’ve read that green team is better for AI works due to libraries builded for Cuda.

Hardware & Software Setup

  • GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Gaming OC 16G

  • Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING A520M-PLUS WIFI

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X (no iGPU)

  • OS: Ubuntu 24.04

Issue Description
GRUB displays correctly too
After selecting the OS, the screen goes black too, fans spin up to 100% (scary!!), and the system becomes unresponsive too…

Personnal searches
I’ve read on various forums that Nvidia drivers have always an adaptation time before being usable on Linux for newer card models. I’ve read some tutorials talking about building from source the kernel (I’ve never done that before so don’t want to try risking to brick my GPU…)

Questions for the Community
I’m wondering if there are news about installing and using Linux (Debian or Ubuntu) with this GPU, and a reliable method to make it works without risk of bricking my devide…

Important notes:
I’m using Windows 11 (latest update) on another SSD with the same hardware and all perfectly works, but I would like to use Linux instead.

Thanks in advance for your help…
