Connecting 7" LCD touch screen with Jetson TK1 using HDMI interface.

I just bought a LCD touch screen on amazon, (newbie to Jetson TK1)

https://www.amazon.com/LANDZO-Touch-Screen-Raspberry-Model/product-reviews/B01ID5BQTC?pageNumber=2

Its a raspberry pi display actually and works fine in it. when I connect it to my jetson board it wont turn on (its blank, but powered). The touch events are supposed to be received through the micro USB port on the display.

I’m thinking like it should work out of the box like its working with raspberry pi. And when I connect it to the laptop running ubuntu 17.04 except touch everything is fine (But that’s not my concern)

Please help me with configuring this screen with Jetson TK1.

Thank you!!!

There are a number of people who have worked on RPi displays (I have not). Not sure what the progress has been.

What kind of connector is used? If HDMI, then you should be able to find an edid file and get its content:

sudo -s
cat `find /sys -name edid`
exit

If you have that it’ll be possible that auto configuration will work…if not, then it cannot be automatically configured.

You may get the screen working, thanks to @linuxdev advices.
But if touch screen is mandatory for you, this seems not obvious: what is the better option for TOUCH SCREEN on Jetson tk1 ? - Jetson TK1 - NVIDIA Developer Forums.

@linuxdev

I’m using HDMI to connect with Jetson TK1 and I tried the commands as you said, the response was:

susheel@HP-Pavilion:~$ sudo -s
root@HP-Pavilion:~# cat find /sys -name edid

I connected Jetson tk1 with the my laptop using micro USb to run this… What should I do now?? pl. help me

@Honey_Patoceul

I saw the link you shared.,
Omg, so I cant use any touch screen with my Jetson TK1?

Guys if raspberry pi display is bad choice? What are the chances I have to use touch screen with Jetson TK1?

FYI, I do see “HP Pavilion” there…this has to be run from the Jetson.

Please also share the log of dmesg and sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/tegradc.X/edid

Yea guys, I’m sharing the logs as you both @linuxdev @WayneWWW asked.,

@linuxdev, not getting any logs when I run - cat find /sys -name edid !!!

Hi susheel,

The log is too long. Please use attachment for it. Also, edid under tegradc.X.

Hello WayneWWW, the logs for dmesg:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1W4ZQxU3J_HGfYMGRYTZJITmBTfGmO2ej

and edid under tegradc.X retuns “No such file or directory”. I find folders tegradc.0 & tegradc.1 under debug folder, even in that folders edid returns nothing.

@linuxdev, cat find /sys -name edid also returns nothing.,

ubuntu@tegra-ubuntu:~$ sudo -s
root@tegra-ubuntu:~# cat find /sys -name edid
^C
root@tegra-ubuntu:~# exit
exit
ubuntu@tegra-ubuntu:~$

EDIT: I take it back…on a TK1 the edid file could be missing if no monitor is connected. The question below about sha1sum is still valid though, we need to confirm the drivers are in place. If the edid data is not present and the drivers are in place, then it tends to confirm your monitor does not have the DDC wire and EDID is not being sent…this makes auto configuration impossible.

[s]Normally I would expect that the edid file exists regardless of monitor, and that with no monitor (or a monitor without edid) the content would be:

No EDID

[/s]

The fact that the file is missing suggests the driver is missing or misconfigured. Does everything show up ok from this command on the Jetson:

sha1sum -c /etc/nv_tegra_release

Sorry for not pointing out X= <0,1>…

One of them should have the EDID of your monitor. If there is not, I believe there could be some problem in your EDID probing (I2C).

What is the result of?

export DISPLAY=:0
xrandr --verbose

Hey guys thank you both for the reply,

@linuxdev and @WayneWWW - I tried the “sha1sum, export display and xrandr” and the logs are below.

I’m bit confused, ran these commandlines on my JetsonTK1 connected to Samsung monitor through HDMI and Is there any tested touch display interface for jetson tk1? (in need of a 7"+ display)

Waiting for the suggestions and solution!!!

@linuxdev, Where is the process going wrong? If a samsung monitor connected through HDMI can work fine with Jetson TK1, why not my 7" screen which is also connected through HDMI?

what are the options do I have for interfacing 7"+ screen along with touch? Searched completely over internet and there is no reliable information.

Need: To run a GUI on a touch screen with Jetson TK1

I came across this topic Jetson touchscreen - Jetson TK1 - NVIDIA Developer Forums, where it’s said that this product: Shop | Chalkboard Electronics would work!!

Let me verify something: The “xrandr” command which read the “edid” information above…was this done with ONLY the touch screen monitor attached?

With that same configuration (only that touch screen attached), with xrandr showing that data, this command returned no data at all?

sudo -s
cat `find /sys -name edid`
exit

The reason I ask is because there are two display controllers. EDID data (and xrandr responses) will exist for each monitor connected (well, edid file will exist for each monitor, but xrandr will respond only for the currently set DISPLAY). I want to verify that the results are purely from the touch screen. The reason is that it should not be possible for these conditions to exist at the same time:

 • No edid file or empty edid file (uses i2c query to all controllers).
 • xrandr returns EDID data (uses i2c query to controller defined by DISPLAY variable).
 • A single monitor attached (the same i2c query would be used from both xrandr and file).

So if possible verify only the touch screen is attached. Verify that the edid file read command and xrandr show contradictory data…this would change the nature of the error by quite a lot since the sha1sum command verifies drivers are correct and in place.

Hey linuxdev, apologies for the delayed response. I connected touch screen with the Jetson TK1 and tried to do stuff through SSH.

The output for the command ‘sha1sum -c /etc/nv_tegra_release’ is,

Before running xrandr did you set DISPLAY as “:0”? Did you use any ssh option like “-X” or “-Y” to forward to your PC? Hopefully it is just “DISPLAY=:0” and no forwarding.

Can you tell me, under these same circumstances (the touch screen and only the touch screen attached…no remote X forwarding), what you get from:

sudo -s
find /sys -name 'edid'
cat `find /sys -name 'edid'`
exit

xrandr depends on an environment variable, the edid file depends on a driver and is more or less independent of environment. The edid file also formats it so it is possible to copy and paste the edid data to edidreader.com without manually adding a space between bytes. The information needs to be determined with exactly the one monitor and no other monitor attached.

yea I set display as “:0” and used putty in my laptop for ssh. Without remote X forwarding in the sense, shouldn’t use putty? I’m so new to these stuff, help me out

Using “:0” with PuTTY should be ok since this provides output to the first display directly on the Jetson. Had this resulted in something displaying to the box running PuTTY there would be an issue.

I still need to know what the content of the “edid” file is which was found in “/sys”. This is formatted differently than what xrandr gives and is a better validation of the i2c communications with the monitor (no actual display has to be visible for the edid file…xrandr depends on an associated DISPLAY).
